We secure Zambia’s wild spaces by combining resource protection, ecological research, and community-led conservation across the Game Management Areas that buffer Kafue National Park. Our work strengthens biodiversity, safeguards critical habitats, and supports the people who depend on these landscapes.
We create inclusive platforms that bring together communities, government, and partners to shape conservation from the ground up.
We invest in local leadership and livelihoods through skills training, jobs, and meaningful involvement in conservation decisions.
We work to secure biodiversity and ecosystem resilience by safeguarding the places and people that make conservation possible.
We embrace change and complexity, evolving our approaches in response to landscape needs, community priorities, and emerging threats.
From operations to reporting, we hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of professionalism and transparency.
We believe that people are at the heart of conservation. We support and grow the next generation of rangers, researchers, and community leaders.
Musekese Conservation is founded by Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith, following years of work through their tourism venture, Musekese Camp. The organisation formalises its conservation footprint in the Musekese–Lumbeya sector of Kafue National Park.
MC launches its first full-time resource protection teams inside Kafue National Park in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW). Initial ranger teams are recruited, trained, and deployed.
Despite the global pandemic, MC expands operations with additional team members and a dedicated fixed-wing aircraft. The Research & Monitoring Programme is launched, focused on large carnivore population assessments.
MC strengthens ecological monitoring in Musekese–Lumbeya, begins citizen science partnerships with tourism operators, and expands camera trap networks.
African Parks signs a 20-year co-management agreement with the Zambian Government, forming Greater Kafue Landscapes Ltd. (GKLL). Conservation roles inside the park begin to shift across stakeholders.
MC is instructed to withdraw resource protection teams from inside Kafue National Park and re-deploys its efforts to Mumbwa GMA. Field camps are established, and operations adapt to a more community-integrated model.
Following the success of the Mumbwa model, MC is requested by DNPW and TNC to launch operations in the Kasonso–Busanga GMA. A full conservation programme is built from the ground up, including scout recruitment, infrastructure development, and community outreach.
Today, Musekese Conservation safeguards vast landscapes through significant logistical support, data-driven action, community engagement, and inclusive partnerships linking livelihoods to landscapes and ensuring that both biodiversity and people thrive together.
We are an eclectic, purpose-driven team of over 130 people, including conservation and community leaders, researchers, operational staff, government partners, local employees, and emerging young professionals.
Together, we bring diverse skills and shared dedication to protecting landscapes and supporting the people who depend on them united by a shared mission to protect landscapes and support the people who depend on them.
